HG-48 Extremely Sharp Waffen-SS Officer’s
Private Purchase Visor Cap by Fritz Steinberger
A stunning, top shelf example throughout! This cap is produced in a
very soft, high quality doeskin wool that is crisp, clean and near mint! There
is a tiny, sharpened pencil tip sized nip on the left side below the centerband,
making it barely noticeable. There is also some slight wear to the top of the
cap, noticeable only under the closest forensic examination. Otherwise, this is
flawless! The peak is very prominent, with gently sloped sides that taper down
to the rear. The white piping is near excellent, with only the slightest
discoloration and wear. The black velvet center band is perfect, no issues here! Somewhere
along the line the insignia must have been removed. The previous owner place a
set of the reproduction "380 marked" eagle and skull insignia and we
what to bring that to your attention. The chincord is
tightly affixed to the cap via a pair of small, pebbled nickel/silver plated
buttons. Speaking of the visor, it is near excellent, with the exception of the
aforementioned slight wear. The underside is finished in a grass green hue and
is crosshatched. The size stamped 55 interior is “as new”, with only slight
wear from use. The upper half is finished in a green rayon, while the rest of
the interior is finished in a green cloth. There is a rhomboid shaped clear
moisture shield, which is marked in a silver ink with all of the
manufacturer’s information. This indicated that the cap was produced by the
firm of Fritz Steinberger of Würzburg. Also seen is the script “Eigenes
Fabrikat” or “special product”. The brown leather sweatband is near
excellent, with only minor discoloration from use and a small tear at the rear;
it is perforated at the forehead area. This top shelf example is of museum
quality!
