HG-5 Army Infantry Officer’s “Extramütze”
(Private Purchase Visor Cap); by “Stefan Naruschat”
Visor cap for a Combat Arms Officer, piped in the white branch color
of Infantry. The fine quality field grey wool has a definite grain –
this is the line that German textile makers call a “Strich” – and wool
made with a flowing grain line is known as “Strichware” . There is
some tracking on the cap, with a variety of small assorted nibbles, a couple of
very small holes along the top front left edge (as viewed) just above the piping
and one small hole near the front edge of the top panel (not visible from the
front of the cap in level, straight on view). The white Infantry piping is in
excellent shape; the cap band shows some minor tracking, and one small hole just
beyond (behind) the left side (as viewed) chin cord button. The matched aluminum
insignia is outstanding, the eagle with nicely polished edges. The cockade is
attached to the wreath at three points. The twist aluminum Officer chin cords
are very nice. The visor has fine crazing, but retains a good deal of its
original gloss. The underside is a yellow-tan color, while the approximate size
57 natural leather sweatband is medium tan, though with considerable honest
soiling and a spot or two. The pale, sponge-like material behind the forehead is
disintegrating into a softer substance, that has oozed through some of the
ventilation holes in the band. The ends of the visor appear to be a little
loose, though it is secure in the center. The gold rayon lining is nice and
clean, and still taught, with a full moisture shield (fine condition) that bears
the embossed etiquette “Mützen-Spezial-Geschäft Stefan Naruschat,
Konstanz-Wollinatingen” – though no ink remains.
