HG-53 Rural Police “Other Ranks” Visor Cap
This cap is a period upgrade from an Enlisted cap to an
Officer's. The body of this cap is produced in a blue/green wool that has some
very minor tracking in a few areas, these are barely noticeable unless you
really look hard! There is a minor amount of discoloration as well. The peak is
fairly prominent, and it has gently sloping sides. Each side has a pair of mesh
ventilation grommets. The reddish-orange piping (rural Police) is excellent
throughout. The cap centerband is produced in a chocolate brown cloth, which is
in very good shape. There is an Enlisted Man's style one-piece aluminum Police
eagle on the band, this is excellent with light toning. The cockade is in its
prominent place at the center of the peak. The Officer’s style bullion
chincords are excellent and securely affixed to the cap via a pair of small
silver pebbled aluminum buttons. Both the chincord and the buttons were period
replaced, in order to make this into an Officer's cap. Presumably this was done
by the owner when he was promoted. The black visor looks good with just a bit of
fading and scuffing. The underside of the visor is crosshatched and finished in
a green hue. The interior is fully lined in a brownish-orange cloth that is
moderately discolored from use. It is size stamped (in black ink) “58”. The
sweatband, produced in a dark brown leather, is near excellent with minor wear.
It is elaborately perforated at the front and the rear; the rear seam is split
but the band remains firmly attached to the cap. There originally there was a
diamond shaped moisture shield in place, this is long gone. Left behind is a
very faint mark where the stitching originally was. A sound, representative
example overall!
