HG-55 Fire Police Officer’s (Upgrade) Visor Cap
This representative example is made of a dark blue wool, not quite as
dark as navy blue, but close! It is of issue quality, but is very soft
nonetheless. There are traces of light tracking (seen only at the right angle)
on the top panel of the cap and one pencil tip sized nip. The peak is moderately
high, while the sides gently slope down to the rear. The “hot” crimson
piping around the crown and cap band (top and bottom) is in excellent condition!
The black felt cap band has a very smooth, velvety feel. The insignia consists
of a handsome leichtmetall (aluminum alloy) Fire Police eagle with a frosted
finish and a metal cockade with red felt bull’s eye. The Officer’s style
silver bullion chincords are held in place with pebbled silver buttons; these
represent the Officers’ upgrade that has been applied to this particular cap.
The schirm (visor) is in choice condition and remains firmly attached. The
crosshatched visor underside is a reddish-orange color. The Other Ranks style
(approximate) size 57 interior is clean, but worse for wear in a few areas. The
reddish-orange oil cloth sweatband has become detached from the body of the cap
on one side and in the forehead area; the same holds true for the reddish-orange
chintz cloth liner. It has separated from the body in all except the very rear
of the cap. The diamond shaped clear moisture shield is partially intact as
well. None of this affects the displayability of this handsome cap!
