Fire Police Officer’s Extramütze (Private Purchase Visor Cap) Possible
Upgrade, by Generic Maker
An interesting cap made of lightweight, smooth royal blue
wool fabric (this is the lighter shade of blue, as compared to the darker, navy
blue color). The cap has a high, pinch peaked front crown, with a gentle slope
to the sides. There is moderate tracking to the cap top (not overly noticeable),
but no holes. The brilliant crimson fire police piping has a few moth nips. The
cap has a fairly rounded top panel, but still gives a sharp appearance. The
black cap band has a super short nap, but a velvet-like feel. Mounted on the
front center of the band with the top edge of the wings in line with the bottom
edge of the cap band piping, is a handsome Leichtmetall (aluminum alloy) Police
eagle. The strike is superb, with incredible detail. The cockade is also in fine
condition. The Officer twisted aluminum chin cords, like the eagle, may be an
Officer upgrade, not an unusual thing. The Schirm (visor) is in sound condition
with some gleam remaining (some scuffing and fine crazing). The crosshatched
visor underside is a dark reddish-tan; the very light tan colored leather
sweatband is in excellent condition other than for normal, honest soiling. The
original sponge rubber pad is still present and still soft behind the sweatband
at the forehead. The interior is in quite clean condition, with a rust colored
oilcloth top lining (crackly), and a perfect moisture shield, under which is the
generic mark Wasserdicht (water tight / proof) printed in silver ink printed on
the lining. A small paper tag is inserted in the name slot, marked to an Otto
Schultze. The cap is about a size 55 and a really nice example in quite good
condition.
