HG-56 Luftwaffe Other Ranks Schirmmütze (Visor Cap) for Signals
Troops; Maker Marked (Consortium Producer)
Super cap, with the bluish-grey Trikot wool exterior in near perfect
condition with the exception of a couple nips to the reddish- brown Signals
Branch piping on the right side of the crown - hardly noticeable unless you are
looking for them. The top panel is very slightly oval and the front fairly high
with a subtle point – a very nice visual appearance! The tightness of the top
panel indicates the internal galvanized steel cap spring is in place. The metal
insignia is a fine set in matte aluminum alloy, with the eagle’s feather
detail very impressive. The wreath is excellent and spotless to boot. The other
ranks chinstrap is relatively matte with no real gloss remaining and the thin
Vulkanfiber visor is also matte surfaced now, though both are otherwise in
perfect shape. The piqué edge wrapping around the brim is flawless. The cap
interior is un-used (no sign of wear at all), with the standard green visor
underside, a tan sweatband (excellent condition) and stamped on the reverse
“1”. The top lining is a tangerine colored chintz oilcloth fabric with light
rippling (there’s a slight moiré pattern visible in the chintz depending on
the light angle). The moisture shield (a slightly scaled down version of the
normal rhomboid - the rounded top is smaller, the sides a little narrower) is
secure and clear. The lining beneath is maker-marked with a gilt heat transfer
noting a furrier / cap making handcraft consortium based in Berlin: “Landes-Lief.-Gen.
d. Kürschner –u. Mützenmacher Handwerks, Berlin No. 18.”, and notes the
year of delivery: “Lieferjahr 1939”. The size is black ink stamped
“55”. A very sharp example of an Enlisted Man’s Signals visor – a real
fine piece!
