HG-58b   Excellent Luftwaffe Officer Candidate Visor Cap, Private Purchase EREL, Piped in Golden Yellow for Flight or Paratroops
The high peak and saddle shape make this a truly handsome example! The short nap, Trikot wool in Luftwaffe blue/grey is flawless, as is the golden yellow Waffenfarbe piping of the flight personnel. The 1.75” wide ribbed  black center band is perfect! The standard pattern pressed aluminum (leichtmetall) Luftwaffe eagle is choice, as is the silver painted one piece pressed aluminum wreath and hand painted cockade (this assembly is slightly loose).  The Officer’s style (NCOs with rank of Obërfahnrich, Untërartze and Oberfeuerwerker were permitted to wear this) bullion chincord and pebbled side buttons are present and cannot be faulted. The Vulkanfiber visor is fairly dull, with a glossy trim on the brim that has a few minor pieces missing. These are on the lower edge of the visor so hardly noticeable.  The cap’s interior features the standard green underside of the visor and a perforated tan sweatband that is torn in many places but complete. The inner and top liner is in a burnt orange color cloth, slightly discolored but sound. It comes complete with a rhomboid shaped clear celluloid moisture shield that contains all of the manufacturer’s information in gilt. It has the Erel trademark with Sonderklasse (special class) written in a ribbon below.  Below that is the name Robert Lubstein Grosste Berliner Militar Mützen Fabrik Berlin N.O. 55 Heinrich Poller Str. 16-17 Lieferjahr 1939 (Greater Berlin’s Military Cap Fabricator, the address in Berlin, and the year of delivery, 1939). Below the moisture shield in black ink is stamped the caps size of 54 ½.  Very clean, variant example!
