HG-63b Desirable Luftwaffe “Tropenschirmütze”,
a.k.a. Hermann Meyer Cap
This is produced in a khaki brown canvas that is lightweight and has
quite the pronounced weave. This shows some very minor wear, discoloration and
fading, Actually, it looks great! The insignia consists of a BeVo (in white
cloth) Luftwaffe eagle (hand applied but 100% original to the cap) along with
the BeVo winged cockade (machine applied). These both have a tan rayon
background. This cap does not have a chincord or neck flap. All of the buttons
for these items are present, each one showing some moderate discoloration. It is
well-known that the neck flap was a hated accessory and therefore immediately
removed and discarded once the cap was worn. A pair of grommets is present at
each side by the top of the cap, these display some moderate discoloration and
oxidization. The top of the interior is lined with a red cloth. There is an ink
stamp which includes the size (56) and the date of production (1942). The
underside of the oversize visor is lined in the same material as the rest of the
cap. Also seen is a full sweatband, produced in the same khaki brown
material as the rest of the cap. Like all of these, they hold their shape better
when they are on a form. A desirable piece of Luftwaffe tropical headgear in
near excellent condition! Priced very attractively at
