HG-6b Excellent, Private Purchase Army Signals Officer’s Visor Cap
by Franz Ritter
This cap is excellent overall and of premium quality construction.
The body is produced in a field grey wool that is damage-free and soft to the
touch. Look at the extremely prominent peak and think of how proud the wearer
must have been! The lemon yellow piping for Signals has multiple scattered nips,
but these barely detract from the overall look of the cap. The dark green badge
cloth center band looks great and has a one-piece aluminum wreath/cockade combo
with the cockade having a red felt bull’s eye. The Army eagle is a beautiful,
darkly toned nickel/silver example. The Officer’s bullion chin cords (narrower
style) are excellent and securely affixed to the cap via a pair of small silver
pebbled aluminum buttons. The black lacquer vulkanfibre visor looks great with
only slight wear where the chincords have been resting for all of these years.
The underside of the visor is lightly cross hatched and finished in a matte tan.
The interior is fully lined in a goldish rayon that is extremely clean. The
soft, light brown leather sweatband is fully intact and excellent with a
perforated forehead area. There is a rhomboid shaped, clear moisture shield in
place, this is marked with the logo of the manufacturer. It shows a knight in
armor carrying a jousting lance atop a horse along with the initials “FR”
for "Franz Ritter" (thank you to Don C. for this identification!).
Also seen is the script “stirndruckfrei” which indicates the cap is produced
so the “forehead is pressure free” for comfort. The cap appears to be
approximately a size 57. A great example overall!
