HG-85b Interesting Deutsche Rotes Kruez (German
Red Cross) Officer's Model 1943 Private Purchase Field Cap
Here is one that you do not see every day! The cap is produced in a
high quality dark grey wool that is near excellent with minor wear and
discoloration. The top of the cap is piped in a bright silver aluminum mesh that
has a small area missing on the wearer’s right side rear. The front flap
closure has a pair of silver finished pebbled small aluminum buttons. The DRK
insignia is distinctive. It is enameled, featuring a black eagle with a red
cross in its talons. The interior is fully lined (and padded) in a ribbed grey
rayon that is excellent. There is a large, diamond shaped moisture shield with
the maker’s logo in white. This has a pair of lions grasping a shield which
has a key and the initials “HB” inside it. They are standing on a pedestal
with the script “Geg. 1888”. There is a paper tag in the slot which has the
size (54) typewritten on it along with another series of numbers. They read
“4352/3100”. There is a partial grey leather sweatband that has a cloth tie
ribbon at the rear seam. This has a small tear at the front and some slight wear
and tear but remains better than sound overall! A scarcely encountered piece of
Third Reich headgear!
