HG-9b Army Medical Officer’s Private Purchase
Cap
This is an earlier example that is produced in a very soft doeskin
wool in a light shade of field grey. It is super clean, with just a few very
small nips and areas with tracking. Great shape and style to this lid. Just take
a look at the pictures! The cornflower blue piping, for Medical personnel, is
excellent retaining its original vibrant color. The centerband is produced in a
dark green badge cloth and is excellent as well. The perfectly matched insignia
are real stand outs, being nickel/silver finished and toned just a bit giving
them a very handsome look. Even the pebbled buttons for the Officers silver
bullion chincords and the cockade match! The cockade has a red felt bull’s
eye. The black lacquer vulkanfibre visor is still quite shiny; there is a small
chip in the finish on the left (as worn) side only. The cross hatched underside
of the visor is finished in a light brown hue. The interior is fully lined in a
goldish rayon that has just the slightest hint of discoloration. There is a
clear celluloid rhomboid shaped moisture shield. The wide, light brown leather
sweatband has some minor discoloration mostly to the perforated forehead area.
There are a few stitches missing but it still remains securely fastened to the
cap. Written in the rear of the upper lining is the size, which is 57 ½.
Overall, a near excellent example!
