H-182 Textbook Model 1940 SS Single Decal Helmet
This was produced by Eisenhuttenwerke (ET), and displays all of the
typical characteristics of this manufacturer. The shell retains approximately
75% of its original smooth dark green/grey finish. In typical ET fashion, the
air vent holes are small and the visor has a distinctly sharper scallop angle.
Also, the liner rivets display a domed profile. The heavily lacquered, nicely
toned SS rune decal is textbook ET as well, and remains 80% intact. The interior
shows moderate use, with a stamped size 55 dark brown leather liner. There is a
shoelace that has taken the place of the original drawstring. Guess what? This
is absolutely been in there forever, because this piece has never ever been in
the hands of a collector! The liner band is a non-reinforced zinc example.
Stamped on the interior of the shell, on the side, is the manufacturer’s info,
ET 62. The production run number, 961, is found at the rear of the skirt. There
is a black leather chinstrap, with an aluminum buckle included as well. However,
it has been shortened at the adjustment end, and the shorter end has torn where
it was put through the buckle. I do not place any value on the chinstrap but
I’m leaving this piece exactly as it came to me. A very intriguing, textbook
example!
