H-185 Super Desirable Named, Camouflage Model 1940
SS Helmet
This handsome helmet has a grass green camouflage finish applied atop
its original dark green combat finish. This remains 75% intact. The runic decal
was covered up during the camouflaging process but is still visible, if not in
the pictures, definitely in person. Inside, the brown leather, size 58 liner
shows lots of discoloration and wear and has a tear at the rear seam. It does,
however, remain quite soft and supple. There is a non-reinforced zinc linerband
that is maker marked, dated 1940 and size stamped 58. The side of the interior
is stamped “Q 66”, indicating production by F.W. Quist of Esslingen in the
size of 66. The rear of the skirt is stamped with the steel lot number of “DN
247”. The owner wrote his name in white ink at the rear of the skirt, this is
“Hupe”. There is a brown leather chinstrap with aluminum fittings. A super
desirable example, where else will you find a real SS camouflage helmet for this
price?!?
