H-201 Named WWI Model 1916 Austrian Production
Helmet
This interesting helmet has a brown reissue finish over the original
field grey (visible in areas of wear) that remains a solid 95% intact. The
interior retains the original steel liner band (size stamped 64) and brown
leather three pad liner. The liner has some moderate discoloration and has
interesting pads (made of a floral cloth material from Grandma’s brown couch).
A few sections of the original drawstring remain as well. The side of the
interior is stamped “W 64” and the rear of the skirt has the penciled in
name and Unit of the owner (hard to read). Another interesting feature is that
there is a section of an American postage stamp affixed to the rear of the
skirt, you can see where the rest of the stamp originally was, as it took the
brown finish off when it came off. What remains reads “postage” in English.
There is a canvas chinstrap (sewn onto the “D” rings) as well, which has
leather tabs and metal fittings. An interesting example in overall sound
condition!
