H-205 Model 1916 German Combat Helmet
Very tough helmet to encounter with these characteristics.
First of all, this is a helmet that was repainted by hand, possibly in the
field, during the war. The dark green paint is about 85% complete. There are
some areas where the paint is scratched and some where it is worn. Another
reason we know it’s a “reissue” paint is that you can see where they
stenciled the shell size (66) under the paint in the rear of the skirt.
This piece has a lot going for it, because the three-pad liner (in grey leather)
is still present with the steel linerband. The front pad has a tear and the
drawstring looks like an ancient replacement but overall, finding any decent
liner in a Model 1916 is the exception to the rule! Put this together with
the fact that this example still has the leather chinstrap (in very nice
condition I might add) and you have a real winner. Don’t let this one
get away.
