H-209 WWI German Model 1916 Combat Helmet Complete
with Scarce Frontal Plate
This configuration offered up a significant improvement in head
protection versus the helmet alone…a good thing, as it adds almost five pounds
to the already four pound helmet! Finished in its natural base metal hue,
the frontal plate is attached by a notch on either side that fit over the
ventilation studs, with a black leather strap (which appears to be an original
piece) that secured it further by wrapping around the rear of the helmet. The
number “141” is stamped into the lower right, inner portion of the plate.
Speaking of the helmet, its dark apple green paint is 85% intact, showing an
even wear pattern. Barely visible in the shell are a few minor dings, they can
be felt but are practically impossible to see! The interior contains one of the
three original liner pads, with a metal liner band that was used on later
versions of this model. The side of the interior is stamped S1.66. for the
manufacturers code and shell size of the helmet. A very desirable and scarce
combination!
