H-222 Named Model 1935 Luftwaffe Double Decal
Helmet
This interesting example retains a majority (90% +!) of its original
smoothly applied Luftwaffe blue/grey finish. There is an early, drooptail type
Luftwaffe eagle decal on the left side that remains 95% intact, and a tri-color
shield over on the right that checks in at 85%. There is a brown leather, size
stamped 57 liner which shows minor wear and discoloration. There is a drawstring
and a reinforced aluminum linerband that is maker marked, dated 1938 and size
stamped 57. There is a trace amount of red paint around the lower edge of the
interior. We must mention that the washers are not in place on the early, brass
split pins. We have no doubt that the liner and band are original, but have to
“call it like it is”! The owner wrote his name onto the liner, “Gefr A.
Burkart”. He also wrote his Unit information, which is “Flak. I/61 Einheit
215”. Flak. I/61 was a Motorized Flak Unit that served in Poland, France
(Dunkirk), Romania, Greece and Southern Russia (Ukraine). The liner also has the
word “REEPs”. My watchdog Tom found an Obstlt. Ludwig Reeps who served
in Luftlandgeschwader 1! The side of the interior is stamped “ET 64”,
indicating production by Eisenhuttenwerke of Thale in the size of 64. The steel
lot number, located at the rear of the skirt, is “3662”, which indicates
production in 1937. An excellent brown leather chinstrap with aluminum fittings
is included as well. A near excellent example!
