H-277 Model 1942 Wehrmacht Combat Helmet with G.I.
Personalizations
I love these helmets and have a collection of them myself. This one
was a close duplicate so I thought I'd let it go. This one was brought
home by a 101st Airborne Veteran The grey combat paint is 95% intact and a few
G.I's wrote their names on it. One is Warren from Elton, MO another is
Sammy Carr and still another is Joseph from Philadelphia, Pa. They also
wrote “Belgium” on the front of the helmet, but spelled it wrong (it might
have been on the second day of the convention!). The size 59 liner with
original drawstring is near excellent with only scuffs in the leather on the
sides. It's a late-production helmet with size and maker stamps in the rear of
the skirt (SE 66). The Airborne G.I. must have attended the 14th annual 101st
Airborne Assn Reunion in NYC in August 1959 because there is a sticker in the
skirt with that writing. Pretty cool piece and a potential research project if
you can make out more of the names than I can.
