H-284 Huge Model 1940 Camouflage (Former
Whitewash) Helmet
This is one you need to see to enjoy. This started life as a standard
combat helmet but had at least two other lives. One of these was a coat of
whitewash used during the winter months. When Spring rolled around, they removed
some of the wash then painted a thick coat of grey paint over the exterior of
the shell. This is a great looker with the white still showing around the rivets
and in a few spots where the grey finish is gone. The size 61 stamped liner (for
those of you who are into size) retains its original drawstring. The liner
is "good only", as a few of the tongues are torn (see photos) and the
liner has been treated. The side of the interior of the shell is deeply stamped
“Q 68” which is the largest regular production size available. This
interesting helmet has a worn black leather chinstrap. The long portion has
shrunk in some areas. This is definitely one to consider.
