U-080 Unissued, Choice Mint Black Leather Navy
Foul Weather Set
In 50 years of collecting, I have never encountered a better
conditioned set than this. It is mind boggling! This is often times referred to
as U-Boat related, but essentially it was general issue to deck crews on-board
all Naval vessels. The leather is as supple as the day it was made over 65 years
ago. It has the five Navy brass anchor buttons down the front. These are marked
OLC in the diamond for the Oberhoff Company. They have some tone and verdigris.
The interior of this size 52 jacket has the charcoal dark grey wool lining. It
has a large rectangular white cloth label in the back of the neck. The blue
print is hard to make out, but I can see the size 52 and can make out the name
“Prossnitz” which is an Austrian manufacturing town in the province of
Moravia. It also had a cardboard rectangular tag still sewn to the charcoal
lining. You can make out some numbers. The coat is about a size 42 chest. It has
a sleeve lining that has an elastic closure at the wrist for warmth and comfort.
The mint matching trousers are quite interesting. They have an oilcloth
manufacturer’s tag which reads “AIRLUX” (with an address in Paris).
They have entries for size and date but they don’t make sense. There are two
vertical pockets on the front along with a watch pocket. There is an adjustment
belt on the back and the claw buckle is marked Paris. We know that a lot of
Naval clothing was made in occupied France. The interior is lined in a light
blue cloth material. This is the finest set money can buy.
