U-084 Luftwaffe Uniform Set for a
Generalmajor (Brigadier General)– Tunic and Breeches (Indirect Veteran
Acquisition)
TUNIC: The approximate size 38 tunic is the standard
four-pocket, open collar Luftwaffe service blouse, in good quality –
fliegerblau (grayish-blue) Trikot wool. It’s in pretty good condition, though
the insignia is fairly heavily toned. There are a few small moth holes, but
nothing especially noticeable other than for a one along the left closure edge;
there are a few tiny pulls on the left upper sleeve, and there is a fair amount
of abrasion wear and a little soiling along the top edge of the collar. The
collar edge is piped in twist gold cord as worn by General Officers (somewhat
toned). The collar has a white felt faced collar tab on each side - though these
are somewhat yellowed and the bullion piping, full wreath and single gull are
all toned fairly dark (moreso on the left side tab). The sew-in shoulder boards
are a magnificent pair, in gold celleon and aluminum bullion braid (so still
nice and bright), on the white felt underlay cloth prescribed for Luftwaffe
Generals. The hand embroidered gold bullion General’s breast eagle is a superb
piece, though fairly dark toned! The highlight threads are still golden yellow.
There are loops above the left breast pocket for a long ribbon bar, a set of
loops for a medal or badge on the left pocket, and another set below it. The
interior is fully lined in a bluish-grey (almost purple) rayon, with a strap for
a dagger (includes a plated metal “D” ring) – the tunic has the
appropriate exit slit at waist pocket level. BREECHES:
Luftwaffe General’s breeches are extremely rare! This is a fine set, but not
an exact match with the tunic, since both the Trikot quality and the fabric
color differ slightly (the ribs are wider on the breeches and the color somewhat
of a lighter, grey shade). The breeches have a very nicely applied set of
Luftwaffe General’s white wool/felt Lampassen (leg stripes) on the outside
seam of each leg. This pair of breeches has zippers at each calf; the right
zipper functions, but is tough to move, while the zipper head is missing from
the left side. The breeches are in very good condition, but do show some
soiling, and there is some moderate yellowing to the Lampassen. The breeches
would fit someone standing about 5’7”, with a waist of about 32”. A
really nice set which was purchased from the family of the US Veteran who
brought it home!
