U-091 Textbook Desirable Army Model 1936 Gebirgsjäger
(Mountain Trooper) Tunic for NCO (Unteroffizier)
This handsome tunic is in very sound condition, remaining very clean
with only the slightest hint of discoloration and wear in a few areas. It is
produced in a lighter hue of field grey, issue quality wool. There are four
pleated pockets with scalloped flaps. There are five field grey finished pebbled
zinc buttons for the tunic closure, these match the buttons on the pockets.
There are slip-on shoulder boards that have a dark green badge cloth face with
silver tressing around three-quarters of the perimeter. A forest green piping,
for a Gebirgsjäger, is seen as well. The “generic” collar tabs have matte
grey columns with green stripes and have been machine applied. The breast eagle
is a machine woven (BeVo) example in white on a dark green backing; this
is beautifully machine applied in a zig-zag fashion to the tunic. The left breast pocket has loops for two medals
and there are loops for a small sized ribbon bar as well. The wearer’s right
side sleeve has a machine woven, oval shaped, hand applied “Edelweiss”
patch, which was worn by all members of the Mountain Troops. The interior is
partially lined in a green cloth and has some minor discoloration and wear.
There are two seams of the lining that have opened up a bit, and a few small
holes; none of this is much of a distraction. There is a single, small interior
pocket on the lower right side. In the area of the closure there is a crisp
black ink stamp to indicate the sizes of the tunic, the date of production
(“M. 39”) and a manufacturer, which is “Wilh. Bleyl? K.G.”. The size of
the tunic is a 38. This example also includes belt hooks. A spectacular service
tunic in near excellent condition overall!
