U-123 Reichsheer Tunic, Period Converted to Third
Reich, for Light Infantry (Jager) Unit Member
This interesting tunic is produced in soft, quality green wool. There
is minor wear and discoloration from use as well as a few very small holes and
areas of tracking. There are four pockets scalloped flaps, the breast pockets
are pleated while the hip pockets are hidden. The tunic has turn-back cuffs and
lightly padded shoulders. It has a six-button closure (seam piped in green) with
a twin metal hook and loop closure at the neck. All buttons are nickel/silver
finished pebbled metal, including those for the belt ramp and shoulder boards.
There is a green badge cloth collar which has a beautiful set of machine applied
tabs of light green badge cloth with nicely toned twin columns. The sew-in
shoulder boards are produced in dark green badge cloth with light green piping
and the number 17 machine embroidered onto each in green cloth. Stamped
underneath the left breast pocket is “Geprüft 10./J.R. 1” indicating the
owner was assigned to a Jager (Light Infantry) Unit, of course the piping and
cipher back up that information. There is a handsome early breast eagle of
silver flatwire over light tan, which has been properly hand applied to the
tunic. The interior is fully lined in a brownish-purple cloth, which is near
excellent with just slight wear and discoloration. Stamped onto the lower seam
of the tunic, both on the left and the right side by the closure seams, is the
identical stamping as seen under the pocket. These are very clear and legible,
reading “Geprüft 10./J.R. 17”. The sleeves are each fully lined in striped
white cloth. The tunic is a size 38/40. This is the type of item you really wish
could talk to you! A great looker.
