U-123a Heeres (Army) Kriegsverwaltungsrat
(Captain Equivalent, High Grade Career) Tunic
Very smartly tailored Model 1936 pattern service tunic for an Army
Administrative Advisor in the rank equivalent of Captain, outfitted according to
1940 regulations for high-grade Army Administrative career officials! The tunic
is in outstanding condition with no visible mothing, spots, or soiling. It is a
privately tailored piece, though the fabric is a slightly coarse quality,
slightly fuzzy-napped field grey Trikot wool (wide, flat ribs). The tunic is
approximately a size 36L, with the collar in the greyish-blue wool/felt required
for Army officials of this type from 1940. The nicely matched set of sew-in
shoulder boards are in matte aluminum braid, with a narrow dark green inner
piping line between outer an inner rows. Each board has a secondary felt
underlay in pale grey to indicate – which matches the facing color on the
collar tabs – on a dark blue/green Army Administration branch colored base.
The two silver rank pips on each board are for the rank equivalent of Captain
(but without any of the associated “Befehlsgewalt” – “Command
Authority”). Between the pips there is fine “HV” cipher in metal, for
Heeres Verwaltung (Army Administration). Another of the 1940 changes involved
the collar tab pattern for Administrative Personnel, these becoming a long wedge
shaped tab (the so-called “old Prussian Litzen” – similarly used by the
RAD) with a point at the end facing the rear. The tabs on this tunic are hand
embroidered in gilt wire, on pale grey rhomboidal-shaped backing tabs (piped on
three sides in green branch color) cord with the front edges un-piped). The
all-gold Litzen embroidery indicates this individual was classed at the “high
grade career” level! The breast eagle is a superb Officer’s hand
embroidered aluminum bird, perfectly applied. There is a set of loops on the
left breast pocket for a medal or badge, the upper loop possibly a repair. All
of the buttons are painted an olive drab color. The interior is lined in a dark
steel grey rayon twill and is in great condition. This is a quality uniform and
complete with a machine woven Vienna tailor’s label “Perinka” on the left
inner breast pocket! The collar neck has three small pressed paper buttons
for securing the collar liner. The dagger hanger strap is present. A very
impressive, rarely encountered piece – and quite striking.
