U-126   Army Officer’s Service Tunic and Breeches Set for a Signals Leutnant (2LT)
TUNIC: An outstanding piece, this tunic is made of a light field grey Trikot fabric, with fairly noticeable ribs. The fabric has a nice, heavy feel to it, and is quite well cut in about a size 38. The dark blue/green badge cloth collar is in excellent condition with hardly any wear, and the collar’s bottom side is lined in the same material as the tunic. There is an excellent set of matte aluminum bullion signals Litzen (collar tabs) with lemon yellow centerlines. The tunic has a fine set of matching sew-in matte aluminum braid shoulder boards, with lemon yellow underlay. The braid is outstanding, with only a couple of tiny deep nips into the underlay on the back edge of the right side board that are hardly noticeable. The tunic is in outstanding condition, with no mothing to the Trikot fabric that I can see, and quite clean. It has a superb aluminum bullion Officer’s breast eagle, nicely hand-applied. The left breast pocket has two sets of original loops for badges or medals. The tunic is lined in a handsome, bronze colored rayon, with quilt lines worked into the breast panel area on each side – a definite indicator of private purchase tailor work, although there is no tag. There is a danger hanger suspension strap sewn in; the clip fitting shows some oxidation and this has stained the lining slightly - otherwise it is in excellent condition, with olive green rayon (white pinstripes) sleeve linings. BREECHES: The accompanying breeches are very interesting as they are grey, rather than field grey. The fabric is an extremely fine grade of Trikot – very soft, with super fine ribs. It is quite lightweight and would have been very comfortable to wear (but would not have been adequate for heavy field use). The breeches would fit someone standing about 5’5” tall (about 165cm), with an approximate 30” waist, and are in very good condition with only some very light soiling, very slight moth tracking in a few places and one or two tiny holes, and a repair on each inner leg (at the same spot on each side) on the inner, upper thigh area – not readily visible if the breeches were on a mannequin. They appear to be complete with all of the original buttons, and have ankle / calve slits fitted with zippers; the zippers appear to function, though one peculiar, question mark style metal wire pull tab is missing from the right leg. The breeches are lined around the waist in off-white cotton.
