U-127 Army Model 1943 Combat Tunic for Artillery
Unteroffizer
Sound but collector restored example. This is a Model 1943 style
tunic with the four patch pockets. The owner had configured it to resemble
the Model 1936 by having a tailor apply the dark green collar. This was a
common practice among NCO’s and is readily accepted. The silver NCO tressing
around the collar is also original to the jacket. It has the earlier type
red piped, dark green NCO slip-on boards with the subdued tressing. The
lack of tressing at the bottom of the board identifies this as an Unteroffizer.
The red piped litzen on the collar has the earlier style green backing.
These have been crudely hand applied so I've concluded this was collector-done.
The flatwire light green backed NCO breast eagle is also hand applied. Although
this might pass as original, I am also declaring this as collector-applied. This
is because this style eagle is normally found on a Parade Dress Tunic. So,
unless this NCO chose to have the tailor apply this to his service tunic, it's
not likely to be original to this offering. The rough textured green wool body
is in excellent shape and all the light green painted, pebbled zinc buttons are
intact. The size is approximately a 36 and there is a partial light grey
rayon lining with a single bandage pocket. The clearly stamped size markings are
located on the right side (if you were wearing it) rayon panel. All kitted out,
this would make a very nice display piece.
