U-131 Army Signal Officer’s Model 1936 Tunic
with Jager Patch
Very nice tunic made of Trikot wool, with the fabric quite soft and
probably woven from a yarn blend that included some cotton, given its lightly
springy texture. Quite a nice material, in a medium green hued field grey.
It is the usual 1936 model tunic pattern – but especially interesting on this
tunic is the fact that the collar is not the usual badge cloth felt material,
but is, instead, a ribbed material – i.e. the collar is a Trikot fabric, just
like the tunic! The piece has pleated pockets with scalloped flaps and French
cuffs. The exterior is in sound condition – no rips or tears, only a small
pull or two, and some soiling (cuff edges, lower part of the forearms, etc.) and
a couple of small spots. The hand embroidered bullion collar Litzen (tabs) are
in nice shape, with a matte appearance, and bright lemon yellow piping. The
tunic is set up with sew-in boards, which are quite short - a good inch or so of
each board was inserted into the shoulder seams – this Officer must have
really had the opposite of broad shoulders. The braid surfaces show wear, but
are otherwise good. Each has a small sized gilt pip for the rank of Oberleutnant,
and a gilt numeral cipher “2”. The Officer’s breast eagle is in hand
embroidered aluminum bullion, hand applied. There is a nice Jager patch on the
right sleeve. There is an Iron Cross Second Class
ribbon and a Second Class War Merit Cross attached to the second buttonhole. The
matte brown cotton lining of this approximate size 36 garment is in very good
condition, and it is complete with a black strap with plated metal clip for
supporting a dagger. A rather small fellow, but a handsome piece.
