U-133a Army Walking Out Dress Tunic for a Pionier
Oberfeldwebel
This uniform is made of a real fine (had to be privately purchased
fabric) Trikot wool with a very smooth surface feel. It’s approximately a size
36 – but with extremely long sleeves! The sew-in shoulder boards are faced in
dark blue/green badge cloth, fully bordered in shiny aluminum NCO tress, with
two bright (but matte finished) smaller type rank pips, for the rank of
Oberfeldwebel. Traces of once present Unit number ciphers are still visible on
the boards. The black Pionier branch piping on the boards is in good condition,
indeed, all the black branch piping is in good condition! The machine woven
aluminum cloth Litzen (tabs) are mounted on black felt backings (Pionier color).
Other than for one slightly loose tab corner, tabs and facings are very good.
The aluminum NCO tress tape along upper and front edges of the collar is a bit
soiled with a little wear; the inner edge of the collar itself also shows honest
wear. The sleeves have French cuffs. The breast eagle is one of the wide variety
of flatwire bird commonly encountered on the full Waffenrock - machine woven (BeVo)
in aluminum thread (thus “flatwire”) on a deep olive green backing in this
case, this applied to a slightly larger, contoured field grey backing and sewn
to the tunic. The left breast has a set of loops for a single ribbon bar
(included is a War Merit Cross with Swords ribbon and device) above the left
breast pocket, while on the pocket itself are two sets of loops for medals or
badges. The tunic has a few faint spots, some tracking and nibbles, and a few
small holes (one on the right waist area, near the closure buttons, the rear
shoulder) and a little peppering to the outer portion of the right sleeve.
Nothing seems to be overly distracting. The tunic is fully lined in a nearly
perfectly matched (i.e. with the exterior) field grey colored rayon, with some
minor soiling and light fraying here and there. The tunic has a two-piece waist
cinch belt with plated metal end fixtures (where some plating is missing, there
is light oxidation), and a tailored opening slot for a dagger handing strap.
Despite the moderate mothing, a very nice, scarce walking out dress tunic in a
sought after Waffenfarbe (branch color).
