U-134a Army Waffenrock for an Army Recruiter –
Rare Waffenfarbe (Branch Color)
Very nice privately tailored piece (white oilcloth tag inside the
right inner breast pocket, with tailor and owner names), made of very good
quality Trikot wool. The tunic is approximate a size 36. The orange piped
(military recruiting branch, or military police), sew-in boards have the unit
ciphers “IX” embroidered on the dark blue/green badge cloth board faces –
this makes it almost certain the tunic is for a recruiter rather than a military
policeman. The top and front edges of the dark blue/green collar and tunic
closure and sleeve cuff edges are all piped in orange. The two Ärmelpatten
(cuff tabs) on each cuff have orange backings. The piping on the tunic appears
to be in pretty good condition with no significant moth nibbles. The left sleeve
has a real nice Gefreiter’s chevron, in shiny aluminum lamé tress, on a
blue/green backing. There is a very nice machine woven eagle in aluminum thread
(i.e. “flatwire”), on a dark blue/green backing – though original, I
suspect that it has been re-applied. There is a set of two loops for a
short ribbon and two other sets of loops. For some weird reason, the
height of the left cuff (from bottom to top edge of the blue/green badge cloth)
is a tad wider than that of the right cuff. Along the right closure edge, there
are some faint ink lines (child-done, most likely!). The tunic is fully lined in olive
green rayon, the sleeve in off-white, rayon with pinstripes. The bottom portion
of the lining in each sleeve shows a good amount of abrasion wear, as does the
very bottom front edge of the left cuff (the inside card stiffener is visible).
This tunic has the oft-encountered, wide cloth inner waist cinch strap on each
side of the interior. A very interesting example of a very scarce branch color
Waffenrock.
