U-139 Army
White Winter “Wind Blouse”, with Sleeve Identification Stripe
An interesting garment, one layer thick (white cotton
fabric) so basically just a snow camouflage windbreaker - much like a standard anorak
in terms of the cut – notably the breast-wide row of three in-line chest
pockets (run across the full front of the blouse). All three pockets have flaps,
each with a flat, white bakelite button; the right and left pockets are pleated
(the middle pocket – which is the widest of the three - has no pleat). The
adjustable closures at each wrist are by means of cloth straps with clamp-style
buckles (as opposed to buttons). There is some oxidation on the buckles, which
has bled a bit onto the white cotton around them. The neck has the tongue panel
(like on a shoe), with overlapping five-eyelet breastbone vent (metal eyelets),
complete with matching braided drawstring cord
fabric flap that covers this to seal out the wind with overlying outer
flaps – these secured across the opening by an original white tie string cord!
The hood is in great shape. There are no waist slots for pocket access on this
piece, A horizontal black cloth band is applied to the upper left sleeve –
apparently as some sort of Unit identification. There is some light soiling and
some faint pencil marks on the inside rear of the blouse (markings look like
German characters). This extremely light weight snow blouse would fit over a
uniformed individual at least up to a size 40, perhaps even bigger. Clean off
the wrist buckles, and this is a very collectible camouflage item!
