U-163 Tropical Colonial Navy
Tunic
A very nice example, this khaki colored cotton twill tunic is
a really clean piece (about a size 36 S). The tunic has four pockets, the
pleated breast pockets with beveled-corner, straight-edged flaps, and the lower
pockets cut straight across the tops (no flaps at all). The collar is a stand-up
(“Cooley”) style, reinforced with horizontal stitching lines that give it
something of a ridged appearance. All of the gilt Navy buttons (fouled anchor
faces) are present, secured to the tunic interior with “O” style rings; I
have replaced several that were missing with buttons of appropriate vintage,
though the lower two buttons on the front closure are a slightly smaller size.
The garment is completely un-lined. It has the three air vent holes below each
armpit. It is secured with a small hook and eyelet. A nice tunic.
