U-166a WWII-era Child’s Uniform for Kriegsmarine
Signals Junior NCO
This costume very closely resembles the mess dress of a Kriegsmarine
NCO. It includes the jacket, vest, trousers, Donald Duck cap, kerchief, whistle
(with lanyard) and leather shoes. Also included is the (freestanding) mannequin
pictured if you would like it! Each individual component is produced in very
exacting detail to resemble the full-size counterpart. The jacket, vest, cap and
trousers are produced in blue wool with gilt metal buttons where applicable.
There is a machine woven eagle on the jacket, this is an original piece which
looks to be the size used on a field cap. The end of each sleeve has a golden
tresse to indicate this was for an NCO. The left sleeve has a pair of crossed
flags neatly machine embroidered in red, yellow and white thread, indicating
this was for Signals personnel. There is also a single “V” chevron machine
embroidered in red cloth. The kerchief is produced in blue cloth with white
stripes. There is a wooden whistle with a blue and white string lanyard. The
Donald Duck cap has a machine woven eagle and a “Hamburg” rayon cap tally.
It has a ribbed blue rayon lining and an ersatz leather sweatband, which shows
some wear and discoloration from use. There is a faint maker mark printed onto
the liner. The period correct looking shoes are produced in pebbled black
leather and are in good condition with minor wear from use. This is a
fantastically realistic costume that is in excellent condition and would make
for a very interesting display!
