U-197 Excellent Political Leader’s
“Diensthemd” ("Service Shirt")
This is the short length shirt worn by Political Leaders. It is
produced in a brown cloth that is excellent, with just slight wear and
discoloration. There is a four button closure and two pleated pockets with
scalloped flaps. The large, 24mm gilt metal Political Leader's buttons are used
for the closure (except the top, which is a small brown Bakelite example) while
smaller, 21mm buttons are used for the cuff closures and for the pockets. There
are loops about the waist for a belt. Inside, there is an oil cloth RZM tag,
seen at the lower right closure seam. This describes the garment as
“Diensthemd für Politische Leiter” and lists a maker (hersteller) number.
This example is unissued and just about as close to mint as you will ever find!
