WWII US 24th Corps Captain Uniform Grouping-This grouping belonged to Captain J. H. Lee who was a member of the 24th Corps (invasion of Leyte, Ryukus campaign etc.). At the time he was a LT (jg) in 1944 he was a Beach Master in the SEVENTH Amphibious Force during the assault on Leyte, Philippines in October 1944 (Beach Party No. 4. WHAT AN INCREDIBLE HERO! ) The tunic is a private purchase example that is very high quality, tailored in Boston by Harding Uniforms and Regalia Co. It is produced in very soft light brown wool. There is minor wear and some minor tracking in a few spots and a few tiny holes. There are pleated breast pockets with scalloped flaps. The hip pockets are hidden with straight flaps. There is a four-button closure. There are hooks for a belt. Lapel insignia includes two infantry cross rifles plus the U.S. pins as well. Each shoulder strap has captains’ bars in silver. The ribbon bars are the cloth type. These include the WWI Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, EAME Medal, WWII Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal. The left sleeve has a fantastic bullion sleeve patch for the 24th Corps. The left sleeve also has a fantastic bullion service patch with both his overseas and in country service. The right sleeve has a patch for the European Advanced Base. The interior is fully lined in green rayon. There are pockets on both sides. The right side is where the tailor label and tag with the name and date of 7-30-1942 is found. It is a size medium. Next is the visor cap which is a very high-quality example also from Boston, this time by A. Beckwith & Co. The exterior is in fine condition but the interior shows wear with the lining very torn and the sweatband a bit loose. This grouping also includes a great brown leather belt with cross strap. It is maker marked. There is a military issue tie and a private purchase military tan button up undershirt as well. This is a great grouping!
