WWII German Model 1935 Reissue Luftwaffe Helmet-This interesting example started life, most likely, as a Double Decal Army helmet. It was reissued and given a combat finish, which remains mostly intact, albeit with lots of cracking. During the winter months, it was treated with a whitewash finish, of which traces are still visible. At some point in its life it was also used by a Jäger Regiment of the Luftwaffe, as the inside has the painted script “4./J.R. 88”. If it could tell a story I am sure it would be long and interesting! The interior has a brown leather, size 55 liner that has some moderate discoloration and minor wear. There is a drawstring and a non-reinforced aluminum linerband which is maker marked, dated (1937) and size stamped, 55. The side of the interior is stamped “Q 62” indicating production by F.W. Quist of Esllingen in the size of 62. The rear of the skirt is stamped with the steel lot number of “219”, indicating that this is very early, being produced in 1936. Also included is a very nice brown leather chin strap that is maker marked, dated 1937 and has aluminum fittings. A very special example with lots to like!
