German Model 1937 Luftwaffe Officer Double Etched Dagger by Emil Voos-The pommel and cross guard are the "generic" variety as is normal for Emil Voos marked examples. The pommel is in choice condition being the style with pebbling around the oak leaves and swastika, being the same as shown in my Thomas T Wittmann’s Luftwaffe reference Book on Page 142, left. The generic cross guard features a fine Luftwaffe eagle flying to the viewer's left and having outstanding detail to the bird's wing and breast feathering as well as the clutched swastika. The guard has a large pebbling style on the reverse. The upper arms of the guard have cast-style oak leaves. The grip is also something special here. It is an extremely handsome ivory example remaining in mint condition. The ivory has attractive lines running down both edges. It is tightly wrapped with springy-style grip wire. A remarkable hilt here. The scabbard is finished with a nickel hue finished example found on unaltered “Voos” examples. It remains straight throughout and is equipped with aluminum bands with decorative oak leaves. The blade is a magnificent double-etched example featuring mint nickel-plated surfaces. In the center obverse, there is a Luftwaffe eagle flying to the viewer's right. Beneath both wings is a sprig of laurel leaves. The rest of the blade is etched with a floral arabesque design. The reverse of the blade features an entire arabesque floral etch. The quality nickel-plated finish of the blade accents the fine raised work of the etch, together with the mint frosted backgrounds. The reverse ricasso is stamped with a single oval with the firm's name being placed around the inner circle, "Emil Voos / Solingen". Inside is the familiar logo of the snake wrapped about a stump. This blade etch is identical to the example shown on Page 240 and 241 of same Luftwaffe reference previously mentioned. The original blue leather blade buffer is in place, deep within the cross guard recess. A scarce and desirable piece!
