German WWII 98K Bayonet by E. Packe & Sohne-Wait until you see this gorgeous bayonet. This is a top shelf example. If you have been looking for a 98K bayonet with matching numbers, here it is! This is dated 1944 and is totally matched. The hilt and pommel are steel and have a light coat of rust that makes them appear brown in color. The grip plates are slotted and made of brown Bakelite, that are in very good shape. This example has a waffenamt on the pommel. The matching serial number of “5718 b” can be seen under the crossguard of the blade and on the throat of the scabbard. The anodized scabbard retains the majority of its finish, and the tone of the scabbard greatly complements the brown bakelite handle. The reverse of the scabbard shows the maker code “cul” and date of 44. The throat of the scabbard has a matching serial number. The blade is excellent. Again, the obverse shows the serial number 5718 b, and the reverse of the blade shows the “cul” makers’ code for E Packe along with the date of 44. There is a nice brown leather frog that has been with this piece forever. Overall. this matching 98K is a “near” top shelf example and looks beautiful.
