German WWII Long Model Fireman’s Bayonet-This is a gorgeous bayonet. The hilt and pommel fittings retain 95% of their original nickel silver finish. The black bakelite checkered grip plates are excellent. Someone has used this bayonet as a hammer at one point. You can see some scratching to the nickel plate on one side of the handle. This is not a distraction. The leather buffer is in place under the crossguard. The original scabbard paint remains approx. 60% in place. Neither the scabbard nor the scabbard ball is dented at all. The blade is beautiful. It shows only a few in and out marks. The maker’s unusual logo is seen under the crossguard. It took a while to research this maker, and what we learned on a forum is that the "HK" in a dotted circle, has been spoken about for years. Someone on the forum did enough research to learn that the mark is possibly for Heinrich Krieghoff, the famed Luger manufacturer. There is a photo of the same logo on a luger. We have been unable to confirm this, but it makes sense. It would make a fun research project. But overall, this blade is excellent. This bayonet comes with a leather frog that has been on this piece forever. Overall, very good.
