German WWII Rare NPEA Student’s Dagger-This is a highly desirable, school identified, example with described liabilities. This is made by the only manufacturer of this type of dagger which is Karl Burgsmüller in Berlin. The cross guards are the usual plated example and retain approx. 50% of their original plating. The correct brown wooden handle is a decent fit and does have an early grip eagle. This is, of course, without the runic button as is the distinctive feature for the NPEA student’s dagger. The reverse of the lower cross guard is stamped deeply with “O” for the Oranienstein school located in the Prussian province of Hesse-Nassau. It is also stamped with the accountability number 22. The blade rates very good overall with some spotting and some scratching. It has the distinctive motto of the NPEA which translates to “BE MORE THAN YOU APPEAR TO BE”. This retains the original felt buffer under the crossguard. This came to me with the wrong scabbard. The scabbard it currently has is an early vintage example with solid nickel fittings, and original black enameled paint which rates approximately 70% intact. All four screws on this have been buggered so it stands to reason that at some point the fittings were removed from this scabbard. “As found” example, of a scarce and desirable Third Reich dagger.
