Imperial German Navy Model 1872 Deluxe Paymaster’s Apprentice Dress Bayonet-This beauty measures a full 21” in length. This is eagerly sought after by collectors of this vintage edge weapon. This has the full crown open pommel cap combined with ornate heavily chiseled hilt and scabbard fittings. My sense is that the sky was the limit in terms of the amount of detail that goes into the edged weapon of this sort and the only criteria was how much money you had to spend. This has the folding guard/clamshell. The scabbard is black leather with brass fittings which are totally engraved on the obverse. Frankly, it’s hard to believe that this piece is almost 150 years old. The blade is in perfect condition with a highly ornate two-sided engraving which is a combination of the clipper ship, the fouled anchor, cannons and flags. The original thick brown leather buffer is in place. The reverse of the blade has an early Alcoso stamping. This museum quality example is complete with a spectacular knot which in itself is detailed with gold bullion crown and ball. Enjoy the eye candy!
