Japanese WWII Officer’s Sword-This measures approx. 38” in total length, but the blade a mere 20”. Therefore, these two have not been together forever, and I am going to presume that the marriage took place by a collector. However, the components are interesting and certainly worth a second look. The handle itself is a beautiful cloth, wrapped with shark skin underlay. The pommel cap and the area above the cross guard are heavily inlaid with chrysanthemums. The locking mechanism does not match up with the scabbard and is missing. The blade itself has a signed tang but we were not in a position to have that translated or identified. The blade is in excellent condition with just a few minor dark spots. It has a straight temper line. The officer’s scabbard is in excellent condition with 98% of its original paint and beautiful toned brass fittings. This would certainly make a good wall mounting and beginning piece.
