Japanese WWII Type 30 Bayonet-The steel fittings on this bayonet have toned to a nice darker gray color. The pommel shows a light coat of rust. The mortise button works. The wooden grip plates on the handle are very good. They have toned to a nice color, and any chips have been smoothed down over the years of use. The two rivets with oval washers look very interesting on this handle. They appear to be untouched. The steel scabbard has been repainted. This bayonet measures in at 21 inches (53.34cm) long, with a blade that measures approx. 15 ¾ inches (40cm) long. This bayonet was made at the Tokyo Hohei Kosho Arsenal which was one of the busiest arsenals during the war. The stamped Tokyo Hohei Kosho Arsenal maker mark seen under the crossguard. It is beautifully executed! This is a very nice example with a hooked guard hilt, which is in good condition. The blade has some discoloration, and what looks to be some dried cosmoline, but otherwise is in good condition. The Type 30 bayonet designed for the Japanese Army to be used with the Arisaka Type 30 Rifle and was later used on the Type 38 and Type 99 rifles. Overall, this is in very good condition.
