Italian Fascist Youth GIL Pennant-Small ornate black banner for the Gioventù Italiana del Littorio (GIL) (Italian Youth of the Lictor). One side is made of a black silk and is beautifully embroidered in a gilted gold bullion with the GIL logo and the fascist bundle edged with leaves. This is surrounded by a gold fringe on all edges except the hoist end. The reverse of the flag has the colors of the Italian flag in silk, the green, white and red is still vibrant, with minimal staining and discoloration. The hoist end has two pieces of a heavy ribbon for hanging. Again, this piece is just gorgeously made. This flag measures 18 inches long by 13 inches wide. Great display size!
History: The Gioventù Italiana del Littorio (GIL) (Italian Youth of the Lictor). was the consolidated youth movement of the National Fascist Party of Italy that was established in 1937, to replace the Opera Nazionale Balilla (ONB). It was created to supervise and influence the minds of all youths, that was effectively directed against the influence of the Catholic Church on youths. (from the Wiki).
