German Model 1938 Luftschutz Helmet-This is the three piece, gladiator style helmet used by air raid personnel. This is a heavier weight example in steel with a dark blue finish. The finish remains 80% intact. The large decal at the front shows some moderate toning and remains 75% intact. Each side of the helmet has a pair of salt and pepper shaker style ventilation grommets. Inside, there is a three-piece, brown leather size 59 liner that remains quite soft and supple. It has minor wear and discoloration only. There is a drawstring which has torn from one section of the liner. Large hand written digits in black on one section read “W.H.340.”. There is a partially intact sticker on the rear skirt with info about the helmet including the fact that it meets the standards. Stamped into the rear skirt is the script “RL2 38/28”. This indicates it was produced in 1938. There is a wide, brown leather chinstrap as well. A good example overall!
