German WWII M40 Single Decal SS Combat Helmet- Top shelf offering from a very advanced collection. This exact helmet is documented on page 115 of the Beaver/Hicks book on SS helmets. The smooth textured green combat paint has a slight blue hue, which is an intriguing aspect to this Quist produced helmet. The paint remains better than 90% intact. This example was originally a double decal, but the party shield has been carefully painted over during the war. The SS runic decal is still a solid 90% in place. The size 57 leather liner retains an original drawstring. It shows moderate to heavy use with some fraying, but is not damaged or repaired. The side of the interior of the skirt is marked “Q 64” for the maker and shell size and the batch number in the rear of the skirt is “392.” The owner scratched his initials in the rear of the skirt and they are also inked into the leather liner. Please see photos. This is complete with an original black leather chinstrap showing moderate to heavy use.
