Cased German WWII Eastern People’s First Class in Gold w/Swords- Decoration for Bravery and Merit of the Eastern People. These were awarded in two different classes (1st and 2nd) at three different levels (bronze, silver, gold) for both bravery (with swords) and service (without swords) to Russian volunteers fighting under German leadership. This example is the highest award, in gold, 1st class with swords. This example is missing all of its original gold finish. The remaining zinc has toned to a nice light gray pewter like color. It still has very nice details, which isn’t always the case for the awards, sometimes they look muddy when they loose their finish. The reverse has a rugged, vertical pin which retains all of the gold finish. The maker’s mark under the pin reads “100” for Rudolf Wachtler & Lange. The pin functions perfectly. The black pebbled leatherette case, with the gold facsimile of the award on the domed cover is in good condition with only slight wear and scuffing. The inside black velvet flocking and white satin top are in very good shape. Overall, an excellent example!
