Die Männer von U 995: Gespräche mit ehem. Besatzungsangehörigen d. Bootes von Laboe (German Edition)- This book translates to “The men of U 995: Conversations with former crew members of the Laboe boat”. The U995 was first launched in 1943, was badly damaged in a bombing raid, she was repaired and sent to Norway in
April of 1944 in preparation for the Norwegian invasion. In May she was attacked by a Sunderland flying boat and lost 5 men. She was again repaired and moved to the 13th. Submarine Fleet at Trondheim. The U995 carried out nine patrols in her career, sinking four ships, one of them being the American cargo vessel Horace Bushnell.

On February 8th. 1945 Kaptain Hans-George Hess earned the Knights Cross for a daring raid into Kirkenes Fjord where he torpedoed and sunk a freighter. On May 8th, 1945 the War was over and Kapitain Hess surrendered his boat at Trondheim and spent a year in a Norwegian prison camp. (He survived and later became a lawyer in Hanover). The U995 was supposed to be surrendered to the British, but was in too poor a condition to make the trip to England. She was then handed over to the Norwegian navy as part of reparations. Ironically she was refitted and renamed Kaura, Nato Fleet Number S309. One of her new missions was to go to England (ironic?). This softcover small format book (8 inches (20.32cm) tall by 5 inches (12.7cm) wide) contains 95 pages and is in like new condition. Again, the text is completely in German, but could be an easy translate with your google app.
