Disney Dons Dog Tags: The Best of Disney Military Insignia from World War II by Walton Rawls-What a treat this book is. This was first published in 1992 by Abbeville Publishing. Honestly, what a great book. If you are interested at all, in the artwork used during WWII on flyers’ jackets and planes, you will absolutely love this book. The forward of this book is by David R. Smith who was a Disney archivist. This book contains 96 pages of bright, colorful illustrations. Disney was swamped during World War II with requests from the military to use the world-famous Disney characters in creating distinctive unit insignia. The Disney Studio had to set up a special five-man crew of artists to meet the demand for designs. "They meant a lot to the men who were fighting," said Walt Disney. "How could you turn them down?" Imaginative, colorful, and well-executed, these insignia occupy a unique place in Disney history. Over a five-year period, as a contribution to the war effort, the Studio created some 1,200 insignia, the best of which have been selected for this volume. This is the first comprehensive book on this subject. This book itself is in like new condition. The dustcover is in place and also in good shape. We have included the newspaper clipping that came with the book. This book is truly a treasure to read, and again, it is like new.
