Early Italian Fascist Dagger (Poignard)-This is the style that was carried when El Duce made the march on Rome in the early 1920’s. It is quite distinctive. The steel fittings on the hilt show light to moderate wear. The black wooden handle has a very detailed fascist bundle on both sides. The cross guard is distinctively marked with MVSN. The Milizia Volontaria per la Sicurezza Nazionale or the MVSN was the voluntary militia for national security, or more commonly known as the Blackshirts. They were originally the paramilitary wing of the National Fascist Party and, after 1923, the all-volunteer militia of the Kingdom of Italy.  Ok, let’s go back to the dagger.  The back of the crossguard is marked “B 124”. The proper steel scabbard shows light wear and has the steel belt hook intact on the reverse. The four-pointed blade is in very nice condition considering the vintage of this piece. Scarce example and priced moderately.
