German Belt Buckles, 1847-1945: An illustrated history by Thomas Reid-This is a hardcover first edition with gold embossed text and an NSDAP National Eagle. The condition is very good, though it is missing its dust jacket. This is a first printing dated 1989 by Lancer Militaria. This is an oversized book that measures 11 ¼ inches long by 8 ¾ inches wide. This is the text from the book’s introduction by Reid “The expansion of this work includes the history of these buckles from their introduction in 1847 by the Kingdom of Prussia until the destruction of the Third Reich in 1945. It is my intention to give full coverage to all buckles known to have been produced during this period, military (both official and unofficial), para-military, governmental (down to the municipal level), and civilian. Buckles manufactured in Germany for foreign states or organizations, or buckles on the German patter produced by other nations, are included only in cases where direct correlation with German political or government organizations have been established." This book contains 157 and Includes drawings and illustrations (no photos) of military, para-military, civilian and administrative (political) belt buckles through the years of the German Imperial period through the Third Reich. Also includes history of the buckles. There are 11 appendices which display Trade codes, RZM codes by date, manufacturers without RZM codes, and other technical data. The hardcover is in fine condition, and is a red faux leather, with gold leather embossing. Pages are clean and the binding is tight. Very desirable book though the illustrations (not photos) are somewhat dated at this point.
